Saudi Arabaia Football Federation chief, Adel Ezzat, has revealed that some players will be seriously punished when they return home, after they lost 5-0 to Russia in the opening match of the 2018 World Cup on Thursday.
“We are very disappointed by the defeat,” he was quoted as saying in the Al-Youm Assabaa newspaper.
“This result is totally unsatisfactory, because it does not reflect the true level of our preparedness.
“Several players will face a penalty – goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Mayouf, striker Mohammad Al-Sahlawi and defender Omar Hawsawi.”
Saudi Arabia play Uruguay and Egypt in their next two group matches.
