Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Kogi, demand N8m.

The parish priest of St. Michael Catholic Church, Obajana, Kogi, Rev. Fr. Leo Michael, has been captured by obscure shooters.

Rev. Fr. Peter Adinoyi, the Diocesan Chancellor, Lokoja Catholic Diocese, affirmed the hijack to NAN in Lokoja on Thursday.

He said that the cleric was coming back to Obajana from Okene when he was hijacked on a spot at Irepeni town, Okene – Lokoja street.

As indicated by him, the issue had been instantly detailed at the Irepeni Police State and the armed force and the Department of State Serves (DSS).

Nonetheless, Adinoyi said that the hijackers on July 25 called a few individuals from the congregation to request a N50 million payoff for the release of their cleric.

He said that the ruffians later decreased the payment to N20 million and further lessened it to eight million.

As per him, the hijackers gave the congregation till 1:p.m. of July 26 to pay the payment and debilitated to move the priest should the congregation neglect to meet the due date.

He said that the congregation was not able meet the due date for the installment of the payoff requested, approaching the security operators to help with saving the priest from his abductors.
