The Benue State Government has reached an agreement to massively bury the victims of the New Year’s attack next Thursday.
The chief press secretary of the governor, Mr. Terver Akase, revealed this on Sunday by phone call.
He explained that there would be a memorial service for them by 10am at the IBB square, Makurdi.
Akase said the 10 people killed on Saturday would be buried with the 49 laid at various mortuaries in the state.
He added that the dead would be buried in their localities after the memorial service, which means that 39 bodies will be buried in Guma and 20 more will be buried at Logo, all in Benue state.
He added that the state government regarded the deaths as heroes of the state, who died for the safety of Benue.
Governor Ortom told the Stakeholders Meeting held on Friday that three days of mourning would be declared in preparation for mass burial.
According to him, state government will make coffins for the 49 bodies — 39 from Guma and 10 from Logo local government areas deposited at various mortuaries.
He added that he had ordered that bodies that were currently found and already broken down be immediately buried.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the state command, ASP, Moses Yamu, said more police have been deployed in troubled areas, particularly , Logo, where more attacks were recorded on Saturday.
